change the world by changing the life of a child

In obedience and love, Generation Church established our Chosen Foster & Adopt ministry to care for the modern-day "fatherless" by encouraging families to open their hearts and homes to children and teens in need of foster care and adoption. We also provide opportunities to participate in ministry teams and provide support for families, along with partnering with OCJ Kids to provide support for foster group homes.

    NEXT STEPS

    BECOME A FOSTER FAMILY
    1. Join a CHOSEN Life Group to get support from a loving group of people committed to helping foster kids and meet other foster families who already know the ropes.
    2. Take the CHOSEN Trauma Training to have a better understanding of the impact of trauma on kids and how to compassionately respond. Sign up on the GC App under events.
    3. Take the AZ 1:27 Basic Training to get more specific information about the foster care process from people who can answer all your questions.
    4. Pick a foster care agency.  You will get a list of the many options in Basic Training along with a description of each.  Different agencies have different approaches and requirements so it’s important to get a match for your family.  The CHOSEN Ministry is here to help you connect with other foster families to share their experiences with different agencies.
    5. Work with your foster care agency to complete all of the training, paperwork, interviews, inspections, etc.
    6. Get your home ready for inspection.  The CHOSEN Ministry is here to help you if there are things that need to be done to pass your inspection.  Please bring these needs to the attention of your Life Group Leader.
    7. Take the Wrap Around Team Training with your Life Group and create your Wrap Around Support Team.  These are people who will pray and cheerlead for you.  They will give practical support like babysitting (short breaks), respite care (longer overnight care in their own care which requires foster care licensing), items needed for the family, and practical help like running errands or making meals.  You may have existing friends and family that you want to ask to fill those roles.  If not, please seek help within your Life Group.  People have joined the CHOSEN Life Groups for the sole purpose of supporting you. Please let them and your Life Group leader know of any needs that are not met.
    8. Impact foster kids’ lives forever!  Studies show the number one difference between foster kids who succeed and foster kids who fail is the existence of 1 person who they felt truly cared about them even for a short time.  You and your family can be that person!

    3. Take the Wrap Around Team Training with your Life Group and offer your support to a specific family.  Remember that these families have to carefully screen people who interact with their children.  It takes time to get to know you and understand if you’re a good fit based on the specific needs of their kids.  Personal chemistry is important.  Please don’t be offended if they do not invite you into their home to babysit or do other activities directly with their kids.  There are lots of other ways you can help these families such as:
      • Coordinate help for specific requests. If they mention they need something, offer to take the lead to get it done.
      • Become their Cheerleader.  Foster parenting can be a really hard job so regular encouragement makes a big difference
      • Be their Spiritual Warrior.  Pray for them every day.  Give them biblical support.  Remind them that God is on their side.
      • Be an Advocate.  Make sure that all of their needs are being met.  If there are no solutions within the Life Group, bring it to the attention of the Chosen Ministry at Chosen@generation.church.
      • Be a Doer.  Run those errands.  Make those meals.  Buy those items.  Volunteer to babysit. Do whatever the family needs in the moment.
    1. Be Jesus to a foster or adoption family.  Not all are called to be foster or adoption families.  Those who are need help and support because this is a really hard job.  You can make sure a child has a family by giving loving support to those who are called.
